Patronage, in favour of Versailles, means not only enrichment of the collections, but also restoration of the palace’s interior, and its parks and gardens.
Works of art eligible for the Versailles collections require a royal pedigree; either as an object documented at Versailles before the Revolution, or associated with one of the other royal residences, which no longer exist. Both individual and corporate patronage is possible for an acquisition or restoration project. And both cases will be dealt with in close co-operation of the curators. Restorations involve a project management team that includes curators of the Palace and architects of the ancient monuments. |
